Stowe, VT -
On a 144 acre estate the home was designed like a modern covered bridge over the design and construction of a natural looking mountain stream. On the site in the heart of Vermont's Green Mountains, 40 ft. tall balsam firs were transplanted along with carpets of moss and sod of native low bush blueberry. Local granite stone was brought in from Rock of Ages, Woodbury quarry, with some pieces weighing over 30, tons each. The granite stones were set to appear as a natural quarry and were also used in the construction of granite walls for the foundation of the home.
A woodland garden was developed by selective pruning and clearing the wild woods to reveal a natural garden in the forest. A Torrey gate was fashioned out of old granite pieces to welcome the summer solstice sun on an early morning walk by having to bow down to pass through.
